New Tires Break In?

Many of us are starting the riding season with a new set of tires.

Having ridden for well over 30 years, I've always taken it easy for the first 20-30 miles on new tires, and had no scares or ill handling due to smooth new rubber.

But I've recently read in a couple of magazines that release agent which is used on the tire during the molding process can be incredibly slippery, and, it seems, causes lots of crashes. This appears to happen to mature riders who are thoughtful and aware of the need to be aware.

So I'm not sure whether this is a new phenomenon, or something that has been there all along and is now getting attention.

So just be aware that tires are Slippery When New!

I wear my Bohn Armor pants every time I ride, invisible under my jeans.
