Rossi's Formula 1 Quest
I have been an avid fan of both motorcycle and car racing since I was a boy - although with cars its only really F1 that gets my attention.
Over the forty or so years, there have been a number of times when top bike racers make the transition to four wheels. I'm thinking of Mike Hailwood, Johnny Ceccoto, Barry Sheene for a while, and also Wayne Gardner. The first two did a good solid job, but never made the very top rung of the motorsports ladder - a genuine F1 contender.
So it's with great anticipation we have all watched Rossi's first real test this week in a Ferrari, with an open track and other drivers present. So to see him barely a second slower than Schumacher and about 1.5 from the overall fastest, makes an extraordinary statement. We are watching history in the making!
The talent to excel in either, let alone both of these sports today is breathtaking, so to see him on the pace is awe inspiring. These weeks will have memories we will tell our grandchildren in years come.
Bring on the next test....
