First Post!...Florida Helmet Law
This is the first post to the new motorcycle-insurance-tips.com blog!
The main purpose of this is to be able to easily update readers with news stories, articles of interest that relate - even tangentially to motorcycle insurance.
Anyway the subject of this first post was the recent news item that reported that following the repeal of the mandatory helmet law in Florida in 2000, motorcycle deaths have shot up by 71%.

That's a bigger rise than I'd have thought and shows the value of a helmet in protecting the head from not just impact but from equally damaging abrasion damage if you are sliding down the road....
Reminds me of the saying when I started riding in England 35 years ago, - 'If you've got a ten-bob head, get a ten-bob helmet'.
Ten Bob was then half a pound, and was slang for not-very-much.
Of course at that time standards were much lower than today - and I have a strong feeling that 95% of todays full-face helmets would provide quite satifactory in all but the most fierce/fast crashes.
Talking of helmets and insurance, these are usually covered as part of you clothing allowance in the event of a crash - check you policy. With Arai and Shoei costing $600 plus, you want to make sure to claim! Especially if its the other guy's fault...
